Chaileybrook Southdowns and Littlebrook Blue Texels have enjoyed a short, but successful 2015 show season, collecting a trio of reserve breed championships and one breed championship at the two shows attended.

For the Chaileybrook flock it was the turn of the males to lead the way, with our two shear homebred stock ram Chaileybrook 13/0001 “Tadpole” collecting the male championship and reserve breed championship at both the National Southdown Show held at Cheshire County Show and the Royal Three Counties Show.

At the National Southdown Show judge Brian Glaves praised 13/0001 for his depth of fleshing and outstanding breed character. This son of the legendary TC4028 is out of our leading flock ewe Chaileybrook 05/0002 and is triplet brother to Chaileybrook 13/0002 the joint breed female record holder and is also maternal brother to Chaileybrook 12/0008 the male breed record holder.

Adding to the tickets at the National Show was Chaileybrook 14/0045. This shearling ewe was first in her class and is a full ET bred sister to Tadpole. She triumphed in a class of 18 shearling ewes, the largest and strongest class of the day.

The flock also picked third prize in a strong class of shearling rams with Chaileybrook 14/0012 an ET bred son of TC10187 out of Chaileybrook 05/0007.

At Royal Three Counties we also took first in both the ram lamb and ewe lamb classes. The winning ram lamb, Chaileybrook 15/0003 is by TC10187 and out of a daughter of Souther Cross 07/0033, while the winning ewe lamb is herself a Tadpole daughter out of a dam by TC10187.

Not to be outdone were the Littlebrook entries, with Shearstone Xanthe, the flock’s junior stock sire taking first place in the shearling rams at Royal Three Counties before going on to be male champion and reserve breed champion.

His maternal sister, Shearstone 14/00494, then went on to be fourth in an exceptional class of shearling ewes at the same show.

But she turned the tables on her brother at Cheshire Show, taking first in the shearling ewe class before going to be champion in the Any Other Continental Breed section. Xanthe stood second in the shearling rams here.
