Last week’s Royal Bath and West Show was a successful one for all three flocks, with first prize tickets in both the Blue Texels and the Southdowns and interbreed success too.

In the interbreed pairs competition our first prize winning pair from the Southdown classes took reserve championship honours in an extremely strong native short wool section, standing reserve to the Club Forest pair which went on to take the overall championship.

Our pair was made up of senior stock ram Chaileybrook Beaujolais and shearling ewe Chaileybrook 22/01371, a daughter of Chaileybrook 18/00277 ‘The Stag’ out of a homebred dam by another homebred sire, Chaileybrook 18/00278.

In the Southdown classes it was Sophie’s Littlebrook flock which led the way, taking the reserve championship with ram lamb Littlebrook 23/01802, a Dartagnan son out of a homebred dam by Beaujolais.

Also taking first places here were shearling ram Chaileybrook 22/01372 and ewe lamb Chaileybrook 23/01772. Both of these are by Chaileybrook 18/00277 ‘The Stag’, with the shearling ram being out of an imported French dam and the ewe lamb being out of a Dartagnan daughter.

Beaujolais stood second in his class, while aged ewe Chaileybrook 19/00578 stood third and shearling ewe Chaileybrook 22/01772 stood fourth.

Meanwhile, Sophie enjoyed success in the Blue Texel classes too, winning a competitive ewe lamb class with Littlebrook Hoodie, a Beaconsview Flash Harry son out of Littlebrook Doodle, a 2019-born ewe who had herself picked up a first as a ewe lamb at Royal Bath and West as well as being fourth placed aged ewe at Royal Three Counties last year.

In the shearling ram class Severn View G I Joe picked up second spot, with this one being a Dragon Chris son which was purchased last autumn at Worcester as junior stock sire for the flock.
