This year’s Royal Bath and West Show was a superbly successful event for all flocks, with the show hosting this year’s Southdown Sheep Society National Show.
Top of the three for the team was Southdown shearling ewe Chaileybrook 23/01772, a daughter of Chaileybrook The Stag out of a Dartagnan daughter. This gimmer took first in her class before going on to be female and overall champion, following on from her success earlier in the season at North Somerset and her unbeaten run as a lamb last year.
She went on to pick up the reserve native shortwool interbreed championship as well as being part of the reserve native interbreed championship winning group of three and the championship winning native shortwool team of six.
Following on close behind was ram lamb Chaileybrook 24/02116, a full sibling to the championship winning gimmer. This lamb, again a first prize winner took the male championship and the reserve breed championship and was part of the first prize winning pair and the successful group of three and team of six.
Adding to the success was ewe lamb Chaileybrook 24/02120, with this one also winning her class and then being part of the first prize pair and the top performing group of three and team of six.
Aged ewe Chaileybrook 20/00706, dam of both the championship winning gimmer and the reserve championship winning ram lamb was second in her class.
Further success came for Sophie’s Littlebrook flock of Southdowns, with her ewe lamb Chaileybrook 24/02094, a daughter of Chaileybrook 23/01755, standing second in her class as well as being tapped out as reserve champion young breeders animal.
Sophie’s ram lamb, Littlebrook Freddie The Frog, a full brother to the record holding Littlebrook Eddie The Eagle, was third in the class, while her shearling ewe, Littlebrook 23/01816, a Dartagnan daughter was fourth.
In the Blue Texels ewe lamb Littlebrook 24/02069 led the way, being placed second in a class of 18 before going on to be reserve female champion. This one is by Severn View G I Joe and out of Littlebrook Golden Girl.
Aged ewe Littlebrook Flo was also second in her class, while ram lamb, Littlebrook 24/02072, another by G I Joe and this time out of Littlebrook Doodle was fourth in a strong class.
The two lambs then stood second in the pairs class and, when joined by shearling ewe Littlebrook Howdoyoulikemenow they were third in the group of three class.
